A Few Thoughts on – Wearing Lace

Me in lace
Love that this lace top came with its matching cami!

Anyone who knows me know that I’m definitely not a ‘lace’ girl. To me, and I suspect to many women, lace conjures up a sweet, romantic vibe. I love it on other people, but it’s never been a part of my style. “Dramatic” – yes. “Chic” – well, yes, I aim for that. But “feminine”…”sweet”…”romantic”…no, those words are rarely used to describe my style. So that’s why I surprised myself by wanting to explore a little bit into lace for this season. It’s a popular trend right now, but I knew I wouldn’t be wearing it in a ‘sweet’ kind of way, so finding that perfect piece to incorporate into my wardrobe might prove to be a tad challenging.

So, just as I do when shopping for clients, I got focused and shopped a little out-of-the-box. I knew I didn’t want to spend a lot of money on this trend – I just wanted to play with it a little. So that meant shopping  for a sale item or at a discount retailer. At the first few stores, I didn’t see anything that appealed on any sale racks, so I moved over to a nearby Marshall’s as my next stopping point. When it comes to shopping at any of these discount-type retailers, I’m the first to admit that I’m not a big fan. I don’t like sifting through racks and racks of random items. However, because I was focused on specifically one item – a lace top – I knew I’d be able to either see it quickly or conversely, quickly determine that this venue didn’t have what I was looking for.

Eureka! I found the perfect lace top within 10 minutes of walking into the store. They had my size – it fit perfectly – and I knew exactly how I was going to wear it – with my AG Ex-Boyfriend Slim distressed white capri jeans. We were going out to a casual early dinner in at The Nest in Indian Wells (a desert classic for dining and dancing seven days a week – be sure to check it out if you’re planning a trip to the desert), so I paired it with my silver bejeweled sandals.

Since we were in the desert on a golf vacation, I only did a few selfies to capture the look, but hopefully you’ll get the idea. I can easily wear my nude peep-toe booties or pumps with this in dressier environments and/or cooler temps.(Oooh – and my leopard heels would be great too!) For other ideas, you might enjoy reading another blog post I wrote a few years ago on how to wear lace if you’re a non-lace wearer. I encourage you to experiment a little with elements of style that you always shy away from, and try mixing them up in a way that’s unique to you. You might find a new twist on your look.

To finish up, I just have to share a few photos of the beautiful locale we were visiting – it was great to be back to enjoy desert golf and warmer temps. I highly recommend a visit to the Palm Springs area if you’ve never been.
